‘Blood is Thicker Than Water’ Project: Fostering Religious Harmony through Community Service

In a world where differences often divide, the Rotaract Club of Colombo Uptown guided an inspiring initiative called “Blood is Thicker Than Water.” This remarkable project, under the able leadership of project chairs Rtr. Onellie and Tarina, aimed to promote religious harmony and collaboration through the act of selfless service.

The concept behind “Blood is Thicker Than Water” is a powerful one, emphasizing that our common humanity unites us more deeply than any superficial differences. It acknowledges that regardless of our faith or beliefs, we are all bound by the shared essence of being human. This philosophy drives the Rotaract Club of Colombo Uptown’s dedication to fostering understanding and goodwill among different religious communities.

Phase 01 of this project on August 19th, was completed with a heartfelt cleaning of the Dharmadutha Buddhist temple in Nugegoda, marked by the spirit of unity and service. Members of the club worked tirelessly to clean the Dharmadutha temple, sending a strong message of respect for diverse faiths. The very essence of serenity and peace reflected by the temple environment resonated well with all the members that participated in the project, regardless of their faith. The temple, adorned with fresh cleanliness, stood as a symbol of the harmony that can be achieved through simple acts of kindness and cooperation.

Soon after, the project entered Phase 02, which took place on September 2nd, at the Church of Our Lady of Fathima in Colombo 01. This event promised to be yet another beautiful display of interfaith collaboration. After engaging in the act of cleaning, the Uptown club members were also able to attend the beautiful church mass that took place that day with immense love and deep rooted respect in their hearts for interfaith solidarity. Each member was personally thanked by the Father at the church and provided refreshments after a long day of cleaning.

Rtr. Onellie and Tarina, the dedicated chairs of this project, have shown exceptional leadership in driving this initiative forward. Their passion for promoting religious harmony is evident in every aspect of the project’s planning and execution as they became the symbols of true religious unity and harmony.

In a world often marked by divisions and misunderstandings, the Rotaract Club of Colombo Uptown’s “Blood is Thicker Than Water” project is a shining beacon of hope. It reminds us that, indeed, blood—our shared humanity—is thicker than water, transcending the boundaries that sometimes separate us. Uptown is determined to carry this meaningful project forward to the future years as well to create an everlasting stance on religious kindness and harmony. Let us all come together, lend a hand, and be a part of this remarkable effort in the future to build bridges of harmony and understanding among the rich unity of faiths that make up our society. By doing so, we not only make our community cleaner but also our hearts fuller with love and compassion for one another.
